Real Club de Golf El Prat presents its “Club Sostenible 360” program at BNEW as a model of responsible management
The Real Club de Golf El Prat took part this Monday, September 29, in the international congress Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), a leading event that brings together experiences from sectors such as mobility, sustainability, talent, and health under the common denominator of the New Economy.
In this context, the club’s General Manager, Ariana Martín, participated in a roundtable on sustainability alongside Raquel Sánchez, President of Paradores de Turismo, and Javier González, Tourism Councillor of the Consell Comarcal del Baix Llobregat. During her address, Martín emphasized that “sustainability is not just an obligation, but an opportunity to grow in a responsible and competitive way.”
Her participation highlighted how the Real Club de Golf El Prat has made sustainability one of the key pillars of its future strategy, through the “Club Sostenible 360” program, which integrates environmental, social, and economic initiatives.
An environmental commitment from the start
The construction of the current course, two decades ago, represented a unique environmental challenge: creating a 220-hectare layout located between two natural parks —Sant Llorenç de Munt and Collserola— within a key ecological corridor. From the beginning, three clear objectives were set: restore the native Mediterranean landscape, enhance the biodiversity of the surroundings, and guarantee 100% irrigation with reclaimed water.
Today, the result is a 45-hole course coexisting with more than 3,000 transplanted holm oaks and oaks, where it is common to see deer, squirrels, rabbits, and pheasants sharing the space with golfers. All course irrigation comes from reclaimed water from the Terrassa treatment plant, a resource that would otherwise flow into the sea.
In recent years, the club has reinforced this commitment by installing 600 solar panels, introducing advanced irrigation technologies, and obtaining the Biosphere certification, which recognizes responsible management.

Sustainability with social impact
The “Club Sostenible 360” program goes beyond environmental issues. It also encompasses social and economic dimensions:
-
Vallès Golf, with affordable prices, makes golf accessible to a wider audience.
-
The Golf School, which welcomes more than 500 children each year, teaches values such as respect, fair play, and friendship.
-
The 62 hectares of trails surrounding the estate are open to the public for walking, running, or cycling.
-
The club organizes several charity tournaments each year, with proceeds going to associations fighting cancer and rare childhood diseases.
-
In collaboration with Fundación La Caixa, the club develops inclusive golf activities for groups at risk of social exclusion.
Looking ahead
The Real Club de Golf El Prat will continue to pursue this model, convinced that sustainability is key to attracting quality sports tourism and to consolidating its position as an international benchmark.
