The next generation returns to the course: the Academy begins a new season

The Opening Tournament marked the start of the 2026–2027 season with a day of competition for players of all ages and abilities

The nerves of the first tee, the excitement of seeing each other again and plenty of memorable shots. The Junior Academy at Real Club de Golf El Prat welcomed the new season with its traditional Opening Tournament.

For the first time, the event was sponsored by Gelaaati di Marco, which joined the Club’s young golfers for this very special occasion.

Much more than learning to play golf

The Junior Academy is one of the cornerstones of the sporting and social future of Real Club de Golf El Prat. Designed for children and young people aged 5 to 21, its programme supports players from their very first shots through to the highest levels of competition.

Sessions combine technical coaching with practice, weekly outings on the course and competitions tailored to each stage of development. As well as improving their game, students share experiences, build friendships and learn essential sporting values such as effort, respect, perseverance and teamwork.

Competition is also an important part of the learning process. For this reason, the Academy organises a junior tournament every month throughout the season, giving students the opportunity to put everything they have learnt in their lessons into practice.

A first day filled with excellent results

The Opening Tournament was played across different categories and courses, allowing every participant to compete according to their age, experience and playing level.

In the 18-hole Medal Play category, Daniel Jiménez-Quesada recorded the best round of the day and claimed victory with 65 strokes. Max Bakstein finished in second place with 69 strokes.

In the 18-hole Stableford competition, Mencía Vélez took the win with 59 points, followed by María Sexto in second place with 54 points.

The 9-hole competition ended with victory for Daniel Darque, who scored 29 points. Alejandra San Miguel finished second with 21 points.

Meanwhile, Tomás Palencia won the 4-hole category after completing the course in 24 strokes.

Taking their first steps at MiniAugusta

The youngest players also took centre stage at MiniAugusta, the Club’s dedicated golf learning facility. It features a practice area, an approach area, a putting green and a nine-hole par-3 course, where students can learn and compete in an environment tailored to their needs.

In this category, Santiago Palencia was crowned the boys’ winner, while Carlota Johé claimed victory in the girls’ category.

A season that has only just begun

The Opening Tournament marks the beginning of many months of learning, competition and shared experiences both on and off the course.

Real Club de Golf El Prat congratulates all the winners and participants and thanks the families, the Academy team and Gelaaati di Marco for their involvement in the first major event of the season.

The future of golf is already under way at El Prat.
